Les Gets village3 reasons to visit:
The traditional dairy farming village is a community that dates back to the 12th century. It is now a pleasing mix of old Savoyard chalets and more modern wooden-and-stone buildings constructed in keeping with their beautiful alpine surroundings, with all the facilities you would expect of a modern ski and summer resort whilst still retaining the charm of an 800 year old alpine community. It has a relaxed atmosphere, warm and friendly, in keeping with its traditional Savoyard roots. There is plenty going on in this little French ski resort. The winter is packed with a host of events each week from "fire week" to dog sledding races, so there is a lot to keep you entertained off the slopes. In summer the village presents and hosts a range of activities designed to entice holiday makers. Check out the village website on the Links page |
Apres SkiThere are over 100 shops, bars and restaurants. We have a cinema showing films in English twice a week, an ice rink including the weekly children's ice disco and ten pin bowling alley. If you are wanting to relax Les Gets has a Beauty Salon and Wellness Centre in the Marmotte Hotel to soothe away any post ski aches and pains. We will gladly help organise this for you.
Les Gets' nightlife has a warm and friendly atmosphere and reflecting a village, all venues are in close proximity. There are many good bars worth checking out, hosting live music and showing all the big sports matches. Look out for Le Barbylone, The Boomerang, The Black Bear, L'Apres Ski bar (at the foot of the main slope) plus the ubiquitous Irish bar, the Dublin Inn which brews its own ale. Many have multi screens for all the big sports events. Most bars are open until 2am, and for those with energy still to burn there is the Igloo nightclub, which is open until 5am! For those of you who don’t want to relax once you are off the slopes we have plenty of activities to get the heart pumping even more. For the adrenaline junkies out there check out: Snowmobiling, Dog sledding, Hot air ballooning, Ice diving, and of course Paragliding! The latter takes off just opposite the residence. |
RestaurantsThere is a very wide range of restaurants open in both the winter and summer seasons and you can get a table most of the time without booking. However at peak season weeks of Christmas, New Year and Half Term and Easter you should book ahead to secure your preference.
We have enjoyed good meals at La Taniere, O Kariboo, Le QG, La Pela (adjacent), Les Copeaux, Le Flambeau, Le Tyrol, The Boomerang and others. There is also an excellent take away pizza shop called Pizzalino at the bottom end of town opposite the Chamois D’Or Hotel. |
Self catering essentialsThere is a good Carrfour Montagne supermarket on the High Street within walking distance, another at Perrier, with further big hypermarkets either at Taninges or at Morzine. There are two bakeries within 150m of the apartment. One in the Old Town next to the church where there is also a butcher who sells milk. The other is on way to the ski shop.
